Creating a Google Scholar Account
As a researcher, you want to take practical steps to make sure your colleagues can find your research and that you can track and measure the impact of your work on the scientific community. An easy and effective way to do this is to set up a Google Scholar profile.
A profile will increase your visibility as an author, allow you to see who is citing your articles, and generate metrics that clearly demonstrate your research impact. By now you have probably been encouraged to create a profile. Happily, it’s an easy process and just takes a few minutes. The key to getting started is to have, or create a Gmail account. Follow these Google Scholar Citation instructions to complete the process.
Two important points to mention:
1. Make your profile public so that your profile can be seen by your peers.
2. Use your ‘med.unr.edu’ domain when linking your profile to a verified email address.
Please contact Terry Henner via email at email@example.com or by phone at (775) 682-7301.
UNR Libraries is sponsoring BrowZine, a new application that allows you to browse, read and monitor many of the libraries’ scholarly journals – all in a format optimized for your iPad, iPhone or Android tablet and phone. You can also access BrowZine on the web, and sync your account across all platforms. A link to BrowZine Web is accessible from the Databases A-Z list on the library website.
- Read scholarly journals in a format that is optimized for tablets or reading online.
- Create a personal bookshelf of favorite journals.
- Be alerted when new issues of a journal are available.
- Bookmark articles for reading later.
- Easily save to Refworks, Zotero, Dropbox, or Mendeley.
BrowZine includes thousands of journals, both from Open Access journals from publishers like BioMed Central and PLoS and supported publishers such as Elsevier and Sage that the University Libraries subscribe to.
Find out how to get started using BrowZine at this guide: http://guides.library.unr.edu/about_browzine.
The new PsycTESTS database provides access to published, unpublished, and commercially used psychological tests, measurements, and instruments. It offers links to supporting documentation, articles discussing instruments from conception to use, and, in many cases, full or partial access to the tests. PsycTESTS is provided by the American Psychological Association.
- Helps researchers avoid “reinventing the wheel” by exposing thousands of research instruments and their psychometric properties
- An ideal starting point for researchers initiating new research projects, with the availability of multiple measures, research instruments, and test types in a variety of subject areas
- Indexes a wide variety of measurement instruments for use by professionals and academics across multiple disciplines and fields of study
The Savitt Medical Library and the Knowledge Center have entered into a joint license for The Journal of Visualized Experiments-Biology. This is a unique, peer-reviewed scientific video journal. Experiments are filmed and shared in an effort to increase productivity and reproducibility of results and to increase the speed of learning and retention.
JoVE began as a single journal but has increased into a number of specialty areas. Currently, our subscription is limited to JoVE Biology. It is available in the UNR Library’s e-journal list.
Please give it a try and let us know what you think.
