The Savitt Medical Library now licenses JAMAevidence, an online resource that provides access to a number of books, guides, calculators, and other tools related to evidence-based medicine (EBM). It is accessible from the database link on the Savitt Medical Library homepage at https://library.unr.edu/Savitt. Off-campus access will require a UNR NetID and password.
Users’ Guides to the Medical Literature: A Manual for Evidence-Based Clinical Practice, 3rd Edition
This book is a descendent of the JAMA series of articles of the same name. It is divided into sections with multiple chapters covering Therapy, Harm, Diagnosis, Prognosis, Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses. It also provides information for clinicians on putting the EBM process into action and for teachers of EBM.
The Rational Clinical Examination: Evidence-Based Clinical Diagnosis
This includes A Primer on the Precision and Accuracy of the Clinical Examination. The resource is divided into sections on a variety of medical conditions. Each topic includes information on current evidence and links to original articles as well as updates. Most topics include a clinical scenario on how to apply the evidence.
Care at the Close of Life: Evidence and Experience
This resource offers expert guidance and carefully reviewed evidence on caring for patients at the end of life. It includes sections on communication issues, symptom management, ethical issues, and more. Each chapter of each section begins with a patient story followed by perspectives.
JAMAevidence provides a collection of PowerPoint slide sets for instruction and learning of EBM concepts. They are linked to related content within the resource. Using the guides does require that individuals set up their own account. UNR Med students, residents, fellows, faculty and staff can set up their own accounts under the Savitt Medical Library’s license for free. To set up an account, click on the Sign In link in the upper right and select Create a Free MyAccess Profile.
Includes over 900 EBM terms and definitions. Terms are also linked to pop-up definitions inside book content and are available via searching.
This section includes several calculators such as Number Needed to Treat Nomogram, Diagnosis 2 by 2 Table Calculator, Likelihood Ratio Nomogram, and more.
Two types of interactive worksheets are available: critical appraisal guides and information cycle problem-solving aids. Interactive worksheets provide a framework for studying EBM concepts. They may be printed, edited, and saved to a user’s MyAccess profile.
